This Cookie Notice applies to any Nextlaw website, app, or service that link to it or incorporate it by reference (including www.nextlaw.com, www.nextlawnetwork.com, www.nextlawlabs.com, www.nextlawventures.vc, www.nextlawinhouse.com, www.nextlawpublicaffairs.com). For any personal information collected through the use of cookies and similar technologies, our Privacy Notice also applies and complements this Cookie Notice.

What are cookies and similar technologies?
A cookie is a small piece of data (text file) that websites which you visit ask your browser to store on your device (such as your computer or smartphone) in order to remember information about you, your preferences (such as your language of choice) or your device information, when you return to it. Similar technologies include local objects (sometimes called flash cookies), web beacons, pixels, browser fingerprinting technologies or any technology that stores or accesses information on the user’s device. This information does not usually allow us to identify you, but it can offer you a better user experience when visiting websites (including ours).
Types of Cookies
The types of cookies we use on this site are listed below and fall under two categories, strictly necessary and optional. This means that what cookies we place when you visit our Nextlaw websites or apps will depend on your choices.
We use both first and third party cookies. Any cookies that are set by the website or apps that you are visiting are called first-party cookies, whilst any cookies which are from a domain different than the domain of the website you are visiting are called third party cookies. These cookies are placed by someone other than us. An example of this is when we embed a YouTube video. A list of third party organizations and their respective cookies and processing purposes can be found here.
Some cookies are deleted once you close your internet browser (‘session cookies’). ‘Persistent cookies’ on the other hand stay on your browser for a longer period and are not deleted once you close it, for example a website you revisit may remember your language of choice. The tables below contain details on the lifespan of the cookies we use.
- Strictly necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our websites and use of their features, and therefore cannot be switched off in our systems. The information collected relates to the operation of our websites (e.g., scripting language and security tokens) and enables us to provide you with the service you have requested. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work. These cookies do not store any personal information. These cookies are used solely for the purpose of carrying out or facilitating the transmission of a communication over an electronic network; and strictly necessary to provide you with the information you have expressly requested (i.e., if these cookies are disabled, we will not be able to provide you with the service you have expressly requested). The use of these cookies for the purposes described above is based on our legitimate interest to ensure the proper technical functioning of, access to and use of the Nextlaw website or app and to provide you with the service(s) you have expressly requested.
- Performance/Analytical cookies. These cookies are optional and are used to collect information on how visitors use our websites, for example which pages they visit most often, whether they receive any error messages, and how they arrived at a website. Information collected by these cookies is used only to improve the use of our websites by our visitors. These cookies are sometimes placed by third party providers of web traffic and analysis services. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when people have visited our site, and will not be able to monitor its performance.
- Functionality cookies. These cookies are optional and are used to remember the choices you have made, for example the country you visit our website from, your language, and any changes you have made to text size and other parts of the web pages that you can customize to improve your user experience and to make your visits more tailored and enjoyable. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.
- Targeting cookies. These cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We may use this information to make our website and the information (including marketing information) displayed on it more relevant to your interests and to measure the effectiveness of marketing or information initiatives. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose. These cookies remember the other websites you visit and this information is shared with third party organizations as described below. These are also optional cookies. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising. Please refer to any third party’s privacy policy for information on what information they collect, how they use it, and how long they store it. These cookies are likely to be analytical/performance cookies or targeting cookies.
